Örjan ortnamn eller efternamn is Professor of Economic Geography at the huvudstaden School of Economics (SSE), a position he has held since He fryst vatten also one of three Research Directors at the Centre for Sustainability Research at SSE. Örjan received his PhD in Human Geography at Uppsala University in after which he received an assistant professorship at SSE’s then Dept. of International Economics and Geography. Over the thirty years since he has taught courses at all academic levels, including on economic geography, international economics, globalisation, institutions and economic development, Asian and transition economies, urban studies as well as business and climate change. In addition to being the author of a monograph on rural change and development under huvud planning – the PhD, pursued in parallel, focused on migration, urbanisation and labour markets, also that in the setting of a centrally planned one-party state – he has published several edited volumes on various subjects. His articles have appeared in journals such as Annals of the Association of American Geographers, Economic Geography, Environment and Planning A, Geoforum, International Journal of Urb • Dr Örjan Sjöberg was a Visiting Research Fellow in Dr Örjan Sjöberg is Professor of Economic Geography at the Stockholm School of Economics, where he is also affiliated with the SIR Centre for Sustainability Research. After defending his PhD in human geography on urbanisation under central planning (Uppsala University ) he has continued to take an interest in socialist and post-socialist cities. Often using international political economy or comparative institutionalism approaches, analyses have often been conducted at the systems level thereby also betraying a background in comparative economics. Current research projects focus on post-socialist urbanism and urban theory, urban sustainability and on the integration of newly arrived migrants. Previous projects also include work on labour migration and development, research that led on to consultancy assignments on behalf of ILO, the World Bank and the Swedish International Cooperation Agency (Sida). Professional/Academic qualifications:
Holding a PhD in human geography from Uppsala University, Örjan joined SSE in under a dual appointment with the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics and subsequently the Asia program at the European Institute of Japanese Studies. In he was appointed full professor in economic geography at the Department of Economics.
Areas of special interest:
His research has focused on economic development, labor markets and migration/urbanization outcomes of (changing) economic systems, with a primary focus on the Baltics, the south-western part of the Balkans and South-east Asia.
